3 Tips to Have the Best Solo Trip Possible

Over the last 4 years, I have done a lot of solo travel and I think it is something a lot of people are scared about doing - but are interested in doing. Maybe you’re working remotely and have a few places you want to go and no one can go with you those dates… here are my top 3 tips to have the best first solo trip possible.

1. Short and Sweet

It might be tempting to go for a week on an island alone for your first trip, but i think the best way to go solo for the first time is to ease into with a 1-2 day trip. A short and sweet weekend getaway or midweek trip is an ideal way to test out if you even like going on a trip alone.

2. Choose somewhere close to someone you know

Another great route for your first solo trip is to go somewhere where you know at least someone. I would avoid going somewhere where your absolute best friend lives or close sibling or something like that - going somewhere that you have an acquaintance or two where you can make a plan or two together is a good option. If you went somewhere where you spent all your time with someone else, that’s not really going to prepare you for that trip on that island totally alone where you won’t have that best friend there to do everything with. If you really have the intention and interest in traveling alone, you need to make sure you actually do have time alone!

3. Make plans with yourself

Just because you’re alone doesn’t mean you shouldn’t plan things! I’m not saying have a full on itinerary where every hour of the day is planned, but scheduling out a few things each day is a great way to make sure you don’t just hole up and to also make sure you really do the things you want to do!

Alright, there you have it! My top 3 ways to make your first solo trip successful. Let me know if you use any of these how they go or if you have any other things that work well for you for solo traveling. If you have any questions, be sure to hit me up in the comments below.
